From 21 to 25 June 2025, a French delegation from the Conseil supérieur du notariat (CSN) and the International Union of Notaries (UINL) travelled to Beijing and Shanghai to meet with the Association of Notaries of China and the Sino-French Center as part of the legal cooperation between France and China.
The visit to Beijing was an opportunity for the delegation, led by CSN Vice-President, Pierre-Jean MEYSSAN and UINL President Lionel GALLIEZ to meet with the Chinese Minister of Justice, He RONG, and the French Ambassador to China, Bertrand LORTHOLARY.
The delegation also held discussions with students at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) on the French notarial system and key issues related to land registration.
In Shanghai, the exchanges continued at the Sino-French Center, and concluded with an academic meeting with students from Jiao-Tong University, focused on French land law practices.
We attended the 12th World Urban Forum, organized by UN-Habitat and held in Cairo, Egypt, bringing together global public and private stakeholders involved in urban land issues.
We spoke at the French Pavilion, presenting on the theme : “How to ensure adequate access to essential services in the context of climate and biodiversity crises,” in collaboration with the French Partnership for Waste Management.
With the support of the Institut de Droit Comparé de l’Université Paris Panthéon-Assas and the Association Henri Capitant, we organized a symposium on “The Chinese Civil Code: Franco-Chinese Perspectives”. The discussions focused on a work deciphered by the members of the scientific committee who wrote it. This commented French version of the 1st Civil Code, which came into force on January 1, 2021, was supported and financed by the French notarial profession. It was presented to the French Ambassador in Beijing on October 16, 2023.
